An attempt has been made to detect 16·8 kHz pulse signals propagated via the magnetosphere from Sainte-Assise (France) to Durban (South Africa), 1200 km from the magnetic conjugate point of the transmitter. The level of atmospherics set a limit of 5 [mu]V/m to the minimum signal strength detectable with the apparatus used. Under the existing conditions no magnetospheric signal was detected. This result is shown to be compatible with theoretical field strength estimations.
