A numerical magnetospheric model is developed which describes the geomagnetic field over distances on the order of 50 earth radii. The parameters of the field sources (i.e., the geomagnetic dipole, the current sheath of the magnetospheric tail, the ring current, and the current system at the magnetopause) and the configuration of the magnetosphere are chosen on the basis of experimental data. The configuration of the lines of force and the deviation of the geomagnetic field from a dipole field, calculated on the basis of the model, are shown to correlate well with actual measurements.
