Power spectra of electron density and magnetic field fluctuations recorded simultaneously from ISEE 1 and 2 during a magnetosheath crossing near the earth-sun line show a decrease of the spectral power density from the magnetopause to the earth's bow shock. The relative phase and coherency of these fluctuations, including the magnetic polarization, are analyzed. The magnetosheath manifests two types of turbulence during this crossing. Modes of the mirror and of the Alfven type were observed respectively near the magnetopause and towards the middle of the magnetosheath, whilst near the bow shock a superposition of these modes was seen in a narrow frequency range.
