We investigate two magnetohydrodynamic instabilities, i.e., the Rayleigh-Taylor and tearing instabilities occurring in a magnetic accretion disk around a central neutron star. Against the first instability a toroidal magnetic field in the disk supports an enough mass near the magnetopause, while due to the second instability a radial field with a neutral sheet forms magnetic islands. We determine a critical density leading to the plasma instability and estimate a mass confined in one magnetic island, which can produce the necessary energy of type II X-ray bursts when it accretes onto a neutron star.
