The condition of gravitational instability is investigated in a three-component self-gravitating plasma consisting of ions, electrons, and charged dust grains. The Jeans criterion is analysed for the self-gravitating dust plasma. The charged dust grains present in the interstellar clouds affect the fragmentation process. We consider the low-frequency modes of propagation where the effect of dust grains is important. The equations of the problem are stated, and the dispersion relation is obtained using normal mode analysis. It is found that the charged dust grains modify the Jeans criterion when the direction of propagation is along and perpendicular to the direction of the magnetic field. When the perturbations are considered in the perpendicular direction to the magnetic field, the critical Jeans wavenumber depends upon total particles pressure, magnetic pressure, and the ion and dust grain mass density. The Jeans criterion determines the instability as well as stability of the system. The sonic speed and Alfven velocity are also defined by charged dust mass density. An analysis of stability of self-gravitating dusty plasma for an interstellar medium is presented.
