Interstellar Medium In And Around The Milky Way, Magnetic Fields, Atca

Scientific paper

Large star clusters blow giant bubbles of gas into the interstellar medium. In this project we study the role that magnetic fields play in supporting and stabilizing these so-called supershells. We propose to observe Faraday rotation of extragalactic sources that are seen through the wall of the shell we picked, GSH287+04-17, to determine the magnetic field strength. These new observations will hopefully confirm the magnetic field reversal for which we found tentative evidence from green time observations with the ATCA that we carried out at the start of 2009.
