The effect of magnetic activity on the spread-F at the Trivandrum and Huancayo equatorial stations is investigated. Quarter hourly ionograms recorded at Trivandrum during 1970 (sunspot maximum year) and 1976 (sunspot minimum year), and at Huancayo during 1958 (sunspot maximum year) and 1964 (sunspot minimum year) are examined for the presence or absence of spread-F; the percentage of occurrence of spread-F is estimated. It is observed that during the sunspot maximum year at the Huancayo station magnetic activity causes a decrease in the occurrence of spread-F and a similar, though less significant, decrease is detected at Trivandrum.
