Hst Proposal Id #7576 Quasar Absorption Lines

Scientific paper

This program aims to obtain medium-resolution spectra {R=24, 000} of 3C273 in order to study the properties of the Lyman alpha forest at low redshift. The QSO PKS0405-123 will also be observed to study low z Lyman alpha clouds and also to study the metal absorber at z = 0.1670. A luminous early-type galaxy 40" from the sight line is present at this redshift {projected distance = 78/h kpc}.
