The possibility of reducing the overloads of high-velocity penetrators (HVPs) piercing regolith with an encounter velocity of 2600 m/s by using cavitators is considered. The possible arrangement of nondeformable and deformable, self-destructing, types of cavitators is examined. It is suggested to use asymmetric stabilizers to reduce the depth of penetration into regolith. HVPs are intended to deliver geophysical equipment and to simultaneously carry out an active seismic experiment. In accordance with the planned goals of the Russian Lunar Project based on HVPs, an array of small-aperture seismic detectors, which is capable of providing information on the central zone of the Moon, will be created.
