[2768] Magnetospheric Physics / Plasmasphere
Scientific paper
The peeling events of the plasmasphere produce loss of atmosphere. These events are produced when the electric convective field of the solar wind increases and produces a reduction of the corotation zone; leaving free the plasmasphere plasma. This plasma lost in the magnetosphere or in the interplanetary medium. In this work it is used a model in which it is used the Kp index as a proxy of the convective field to make an estimation of the amount of mass loss by Earth with the peeling events in its geological history.
