A substantial population of chemically unevolved, substellar mass objects, or "brown dwarfs" (BD) is an often-proposed solution to a variety of missing mass problems in stellar systems. The author reports a peculiar, very cool proper motion star which is a BD candidate on the basis of its temperature. He also outlines a program for the determination of the BD space density which is made feasible by the advent of infrared array detectors.
