Experimental investigations by ground-based and rocket methods during the last four decades have allowed the inference of many kinds of variations of the hydroxyl emission. However, the previous data base is insufficient to derive longitudinal variations of the emission characteristics. The WINDII instrument on board the UARS satellite provides global observations of the OH(8-3) band. In this paper we present such observations at mid-latitudes for 1993 to characterize the longitudinal variations of the zenith brightness and peak altitude of the hydroxyl emission
