Results are presented of a long-term spectroscopic and photometric monitoring of V 568 Cyg, a Be formerly indicated by Blaauw (1961) to be a runaway star, a classification not coinciding with that by Gies and Bolton (1986). Analysis of the strong fading around JD 2446641.6, reported by Blanco et al. (1987), seems to exclude the suggested eclipse scenario. This photometric fading event occurred during a phase of maxima in the equivalent widths of metallic absorption lines. The periodicity predicted by Blanco et al. (1987) is not confirmed by the new data presented here. A few hundredths of magnitude modulation in the U light curve, and less in the B and V ones, appears correlated to a period P = 43.846 days, inferred by coupling nine new radial velocities with the 19 ones published by Gies and Bolton (1986).
