The FUV proton emissions from localized high latitude dayside aurora were identified from the SI-12 imager aboard the IMAGE satellite. This instrument detects Doppler-shifted Lyman-alpha photons corresponding to precipitating protons with energies of a few keV. Previous studies have shown that there is a relationship of the solar wind dynamic pressure to the intensity of the cusp aurora and that the solar wind controls the location and motion of the localized aurora. It is also suggested that this localized aurora, under northward IMF conditions, may also be a signature of anti-parallel reconnection. The location and intensity of the localized proton aurora relative to the measured dayside ionospheric convection patterns obtained by SuperDARN will be described. The relationship between the upstream IMF conditions, flow patterns, and location of the localized aurora will be examined.
