A model for the interaction of the solar wind and the magnetopause is proposed which is based on the anomalous-resistance concept. The length and direction of a reconnection line are determined along with the difference of potentials as a function of interplanetary-magnetic-field orientation. It is shown that reconnection occurs primarily at a subsolar point. In a small range of angles near the northward direction, reconnection is more likely beyond the cusps.
