The development of the modified Hubble Space Telescope (HST) controllers by using linear quadratic Gaussian (LQG) design was presented. Some of the principal options and issues in using LQG design to the HST design problem were discussed. Moreover, a reduced-order LQG controller was described and, by means of a simulation based on on-orbit data, the control system was noted to have performance similar to that of an earlier modified HST controller. The obtained results showed that LQG-based controller design is indeed capable of providing high-performance controllers for the HST.
