High resolution IUE observations of the line shapes emitted by V 1016 Cyg are discussed. Half widths of these lines at half maximum, expressed in terms of velocity, vary between 10 km/sec for the lowly ionized atoms, and 40 to 50 km/sec for the most highly ionized ions. Feeble wide wings, corresponding to v 600 km/sec are seen on some of the lines. The hypothesis that V 1016 is a very young planetary nebula is advanced.
