Experimental evidence is discussed for the possible existence of a solar gravitational quadrupole moment. The possibility is considered that the origin of this gravitational quadrupole moment is associated with rapid rotation of the solar core. An exponential angular-velocity model is used to estimate the rotational velocity of the inner layers of the sun. The asphericity of the sun is calculated for different values of the exponent and the change in angular velocity at the boundary between the convective envelope and the radiative core; minimum rotation periods are also estimated for specific values of the exponent. The results obtained indicate that a rapidly rotating solar core with a rotation period of 0.1 to 4.5 days cannot be ruled out.
