An approximate solution has been obtained for the problem of multiple scattering of light in an optically thin, inhomogeneous spherically symmetric planetary atmosphere illuminated by parallel solar radiation. A three-stream division of the radiation field has been made and a generalized Eddington approximation developed to solve the moment equations of the problem.
