Nucleosynthesis: Lithium, Nucleosynthesis: Stellar Flares, Nucleosynthesis: Pre-Main-Sequence Stars
Scientific paper
If T Tauri stars invest 1% of their gravitational energy in flares and the energy cost to produce one atom of lithium is of the order of 3 ergs or less, flares should be considered as possible local sources of lithium. The abundances and isotopic ratios of the light elements in the planets of the solar system might consequently result from a mixing of locally produced with protosolar nuclei. In such a case they would not be representative of the interstellar medium. Moreover, once the initial Li has been strongly depleted, flare activity could maintain a residual abundance at the surface of stars; the abundance of this nucleus would then not be a good tracer of stellar structure.
