The features of the dense narrow upper atmospheric Na layers observed above Mauna Kea are described. The maximum densities at the peaks of the sporadic Na layers were of the order of 10,000/cu cm. The full widths measured at the 80 percent points were of the order of 1 km. The sporadic Na layer phenomena seem to be latitude dependent; the layers have been observed only at low- and high-latitude sites.
