The processes that control the behavior of trace constituents carried by submicron aerosols in the continental boundary layer overlooking California, their flux into the free atmosphere, and their deposition on the surface are studied. The secular behavior of Pb-210 in surface air and on the spatial pattern of Pb-210 and Cs-137 deposition to soils is focused on. A simple box model of Pb-210 behavior is developed to evaluate the relative importance of exchange and deposition to the evolution of Pb-210 in the Central Valley boundary layer.
