An azimuthal layout of deep seismic profiles has been partially completed in the central Iberian Massif. Data from two new profiles and a reinterpretation of previous profiles make possible two-dimensional models for the Hercynian crust in central Spain, from which some lateral crustal inhomogeneities can be established. These inhomogeneities, due to Alpine intraplate tectonics, coincide with the Spanish Central system and consist of a 5 km crustal thickening with respect to the surrounding areas.
