The papers discuss designs, components, and operations of laser satellite ranging systems. Specific topics include the components of a system designed for satellite geodesy, the range and accuracy of pulsed-laser ranging systems, three Soviet laser radar stations built for several projects in geodesy and geophysics, a ranging system for measuring laser pulses reflected from the moon, and the parameters of two U.S. lunar laser ranging stations. Other papers deal with research and development for future laser ranging systems, the main features of a French laser tracking station, a technique for direct measurement of laser-beam wavefront distortions, a double-pulse laser ranging method, a telescope system designed for laser satellite telemetry, a proposal for dual-purpose lunar and satellite ranging stations, a laser satellite tracking station for polar-motion studies, and the design and operation of a joint Finnish-Swedish laser satellite rangefinder.
