Magnesium and calcium form some of the most prominent absorption features in the spectra of many stellar atmospheres. A detailed study of the MgCa molecular spectrum is, therefore, highly desirable for the spectral analysis of a number of cold stellar atmospheres. Miller et al. (1977) have observed an absorption band which they assigned to the MgCa molecule. In the present investigation, the MgCa molecules for the study were generated in a modified concentric heat pipe oven. The horizontal tube in the oven contained Mg2, Ca2, and MgCa molecules. The radiation of an argon ion and of a krypton ion laser and of a tunable, stabilized, single mode dye laser were used to excite the molecules inside the cell in the gas phase. The laser induced fluorescence was observed with a 2 m grating spectrometer. The observed spectra are listed and discussed.
