In the dilute gas phase of Cs metal, the Larmor precession is found to modulate the optical coherence in a density-matrix formalism of the magneto-optics effect. Through spectral analysis, it is proved that in addition to the actual level splittings, there exists in the Cs Zeeman spectra at 0.015 T a frequency shift of a few hundred megahertz which far exceeds shifts due to atomic collisions. The cause of the shift is attributed to the Larmore precession in a magnetic field.
