Solar geophysical data for 1979-1982, including Kitt-Peak magnetograms, H-alpha filtergrams, and Ca images, are used to investigate the relations between the emergence of active regions and the solar background large-scale structure. A group of 217 active regions, some emerging from the background field boundaries (type A) and some emerging near or just at the boundaries (type B), are analyzed. It is shown that class B regions are nearly twice as large as those of class A.
