Recent developments in the study of large-scale inhomogeneities of solar origin in the solar wind are discussed. On-site measurements of solar-wind streams are reviewed together with studies and models of stream interactions and their effects. Long- and short-term variations in the solar-wind flow are described as well as the effects of solar latitude on solar-wind speed, the dominant polarity of the interplanetary field, and the latter's polar component. Probable coronal origins are considered for streams and shock disturbances in the solar wind.
