The IR telescope is a 3 m class Cassegrain-type configuration with uncooled optics. Modulation is provided by rocking the secondary mirror. Its suggested focal plane instrumentation consists of a multiband photometer, a polarimeter, a Michelson interferometer, and a heterodyne receiver allowing for multiband mapping and polarimetry, as well as high and very high resolution spectroscopy.
