New experimental devices are described for determining the microphysics of noctilucent clouds. A large vacuum tank has been fitted with sources for ice clusters, plasma and ultraviolet radiation to determine cluster charging rates from electron and ion impact and from photoelectric processes. A rocket-borne instrument with mass discrimination has been constructed for determining the number density of charged cloud particles.
