It is argued that experiments in the laboratory and in situ measurements in space represent an essential key to reliable understanding of the plasma Universe. This is illustrated by discussing fundamental electrophysical aspects of matter in the plasma state. Conduction of electric current; magnetic-field aligned electric fields; acceleration of charged particles to high energy; coupling between magnetic field and the motion of matter; rapid release of magnetically stored energy; chemical separation; and critical-velocity interaction between plasma and neutral gas are considered.
