We report the discovery of a Type Ia SN on January 15.104 (when the variable was at magnitude R = 19.5), as part of the La Silla-QUEST (LSQ) transient survey. Photometry is calibrated to the USNO-B1.0 catalog. The source's position is RA = 05:31:3.62, Dec = -19:47:59.1 (J2000). Follow up LSQ observations taken during January 16-30 UT reveal a gradual brightness increase by > 1 mag. Spectrum was taken with Gemini South GMOS (range 350-965 nm), obtained on January 28 UT showing that LSQ11ca is a young type Ia supernova approximately 7 days before peak brightness at a redshift of z=0.105.
