Millimeter and radio spectral line emission from the circumstellar shells surrounding evolved stars provide well-determined values of the stellar radial velocity and the terminal outflow velocity of the wind. The kinematic data have been analysed for a sample of 131 nearby stars. The stars were binned by outflow velocity, and the data show, that the larger the outflow velocity, the smaller the scale height and velocity dispersion of the group of stars, indicating a relationship between the mass of the progenitor star and the velocity of the stellar wind.
