Three systems of kinematic variables are compared for a model problem involving regular precession and for an actual problem involving spacecraft descent in the atmosphere. A fourth-order Runge-Kutta method was used for the numerical integration of the kinematic and dynamic equations of motion. The use of a quaternion approach to solving the equations of motion of a rigid body in the atmosphere is recommended.
