Four characteristic states are identified for A0538-66; all observed UV
spectra can be classified according to this scheme. Model fits show that
the off state (type I) luminosity is significantly greater than the
interoutburst on state (type III) value. Previously aired doubts as to
the validity of key observations by John Raymond are withdrawn.
