Based on new lifetime data from a (γ, γ') experiment the second excited 2+ state in 92Zr is identified as a mixed-symmetric 2+ state by its strong M1 decay to the 2+1 state. Experimental data and shell model calculations support the mixed-symmetry character of the 2+2 state, while the 2+1 state is identified as a rather pure neutron excitation. The shell model calculations also show a very similar character of the lowest two 0+ states due to proton (2p1/2)2 and (1g9/2)2 configurations. Furthermore, two strong dipole excitations are observed in 92Zr, which are candidates for two-phonon 1π states.
