Fractional leach rates of 228 Th that are greater than those of 232 Th
from natural uraninite and thorianite have been interpreted by Eyal and
Fleischer in terms of -decay damage to the crystal lattice. An
alternative interpretation proposed here is that the enhanced leaching
of 228 Th is due to its presence as interstitial ions.
