Gamma-Ray Bursts
Scientific paper
We present results from the ISO Target of Opportunity (TOO) program to observe gamma-ray burst (GRB) locations with the CAM and PHOT instruments. The error circles of GRB 970228, GRB 970402, GRB 970508 and GRB 980329, obtained by the X-ray instruments aboard the Italian-Dutch BeppoSAX satellite, were observed on timescales ranging from days to months after the GRB events. These observations, awarded under Discretionary time, represent the first prompt GRB counterpart searches at far-infrared wavelengths. A list of observations made in this TOO program, and details of the analysis and results of CAM observations of GRB 970508 are presented. A tentative CAM detection of a source at this GRB position has been made at 12 μm.
