ISIS-1 is a concept for a submillimeter, space based, direct-detection interferometer. Cryogenic optics and angular resolution comparable to that of a 25 meter aperture would give ISIS-1 a spectacular combination of sensitivity and angular resolution from 40 to 400 microns. ISIS-1 could directly address questions regarding galaxy evolution and star formation. It is envisioned that ISIS-1 would serve as a precursor mission to demonstrate technologies for a future submillimeter space mission with substantially greater angular resolution and sensitivity.
