The resonance theory was applied to the members of the Magellanic Plane Group (MPG) of the Local Group of galaxies, assuming that the Galaxy resides in the center and the other system members revolve around it. Attention was given to members of the MPG beyond a 50 kpc radius. The relative mean motion ratio (RMMR) was applied in a theoretical study of the possibility that the Galaxy has a ring around it. It was hypothesized that a stellar object exists between the LMC and the Milky Way. An RMMR value of 2/3 was employed, consonant with Laplace's resonance relation. The Roche limit of the Galaxy was calculated, taking the Galaxy radius to be 50 kpc, to be about 100 kpc. An assumption of the mass and radius of the Galaxy 10-15% less than in the original calculations yielded an orbit within the LMC and the Roche limit. Astrophysical evidence is cited for the actual existence of the ring.
