We propose two DDT IRS observations of the Type Ia SN 2007af within the next two weeks. The SN Ia is visibly by Spitzer while it is at optical maximum and is bright enough that high quality IRS spectra can be obtained. IRS campaign is already scheduled during this period. These observations will provide the first ever high quality mid-IR spectrum of a SN Ia event near maximum, where it has its greatest utility for diagnosing the chemical structure of the ejecta and the associated circumstellar matter. We anticipate that these data will be sufficiently valuable to motivate and contribute to a large number of investigations among the SN specialty and wider cosmology community, and ultimately to be a significant entry on the list of achievements of Spitzer.
