Chemical and radiometric procedures for the determination of submicrogram amounts of iridium in silicate materials by use of neutron activation have been developed. These procedures were applied to the analyses of six chondrite meteorites, one achondrite meteorite, and standard rock G-1. A cosmic abundance value for iridium based on the chondrite analyses of this work was calculated to be 0·38 ( Si = 10 6 ). This value is lower than the interpolated iridium abundances of both and and , but is closer to that of . Implications of these results are discussed.
