The possibility and limitation of using IR single mode fiber optics for Double Fourier interferometry are investigated. Problems and effects, such as chromatic aberration of the Optical Path Difference (OPD) scan, and hence the chromatic aberration of the truncation, unequal interval sampling effects, polarization effects, resulted from the OPD scan by stretching optical fibers are analyzed and discussed. Calibration for the OPD scan and its accuracy are discussed. It is concluded that it is possible to stretch the optical fiber to realize the phase delay for Fourier Transform Spectroscopy (FTS) and double Fourier interferometry, particularly in the case of low spectral resolution, even though there exist some problems which are not encountered in the traditional FTS. The life span of the fiber may be lengthened by enhancing the fatigue strength of the fiber by means of coating the fiber with suitable material or by decreasing the maximum strain by means of prolong the operation length of the fiber on condition that the spectral resolution keep constant, but these problems should be analyzed further. In addition, it is not impossible to find another means to let the fiber be subjected to force which is beneficial to the improvement of the fatigue strength other than only tensile force.
