The results of measurements made at Ibadan of the E-W component of the drift velocity of ionospheric irregularities are presented, both for the E- and F-regions, for the I.Q.S.Y. (1964-1965). There is a clear seasonal variation in the form of the diurnal variation, some features appear to have an annual variation, and some a semi-annual. Both the regular variations and the irregular variations in the E- and F-regions are found to be closely correlated. From the few measurements on the Es-layer, it appears that the drift velocity there is slightly greater by day, and in the night, the median behaviour corresponds closely to that of the F-region for the months May to August, but this may be because more observations are available for that period. The fluctuations in the values for the F-region at a given hour from day to day are greater in the night than in the day, reaching a maximum at 21 hr (G.M.T.)
