The work of Poole at al. (1988), in which three mechanisms relating geomagnetic pulsations to simultaneous Doppler velocity oscillations in a vertically incident, ionospherically reflected radio wave, is refined. It is shown that the generally held belief that field-aligned electron velocities associated with the corresponding currents can be ignored is unfounded in the case of magnetic pulsations. These field-aligned velocities contribute significantly to two of the three mechanisms identified by Poole et al.
