An effort is made to demonstrate that the time variations of the vertical temperature profile of the earth's atmosphere can be determined by measuring the intensity of the muon component of cosmic rays. The method used to establish this relationship is Dorman's (1957) approach involving the application of temperature-coefficient densities. A neutron-monitor system for measuring the vertical temperature profile in the manner proposed is described.
