Consideration is given to the descent of probes with low and high lift-drag ratios (LDRs) in the Jupiter atmosphere. The flight of a gliding probe with high LDR is considered in terms of the approximate selection of descent modes according to the minimum-weight criterion of the thermal-protection coating. An analysis is made of the feasibility of creating a program for the control of low LDRs by the removal of an additional film on the protective coating and for invariant turn-angle control for assuring the maximum relative weight of a segmented-conical probe.
