Electromagnetic induction in a horizontally layered medium is formulated in matrix form. The observed magneto-variation event is inverted to a horizontal current sheet in a conducting Earth after the separation of the fields into internal and external parts in wave-number domain. Two frequency components of magnetovariation events (T = 69 and 23 min) recorded in southern Alberta and British Columbia, Canada, are inverted to their internal current sheet source. The current concentration across the Canadian Rocky Mountains is found in a narrow band of 70-80 km width. The maximum depth of this current is estimated at ~ 55km, near the base of the thick crust in this area.
