We present ultraviolet spectra of the z=0.0296 Seyfert 1 galaxy Mrk 290. For wavelengths extending from 920-1185 Å we have obtained high spectral resolution, ~ 20 km s-1, observations with the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE). Our FUSE spectra exhibit broad line emission, narrow line emission, intrinsic absorption lines of O VI λ λ 1032, 1038 and Lyman β intrinsic absorption. ASCA observations of Mrk 290 have been fit with O VII and O VIII absorption edges. However, the model fits (George et al. 2000; Reynolds 1997) have not provided as compelling evidence for the presence of a warm absorber as with other Seyfert 1 galaxies (ie. NGC 3783, NCG 3516). FUSE observations of O VI are important for characterizing the ionization state of this warm X-ray absorbing gas and providing a link between the lower ionization species, such as N V and C IV, seen in the ultraviolet and the higher ionization X-ray warm absorber. Our FUSE observations depict relatively narrow ( ~ 100 km s-1) absorption at a velocity of ~- 240 km s-1 relative to the systemic velocity. We will present O VI and H column densities for the warm absorber along this sight line and compare our results with the X-ray data. The FUSE observations were obtained for the Guaranteed Time Team. Financial support for these observations was provided by contract NAS5-32985.
