The observed image of an interstellar cloud has in general an extremely irregular shape. Nevertheless, a minor and a major dimension (or 'axis') can be attributed to it, and the distribution of minor to major axis ratios can be constructed for a given sample of observed cloud images. However irregular the clouds are, it is expected that a morphological characteristic, common to the sampled clouds, will influence this distribution. A statistical procedure is proposed to analyze such distributions, and it is shown that rough morphological features of the clouds, which can be expressed as correlations between their three dimensions, may in fact be detected.
